Ferocious winds that drove the flames and led to chaotic evacuations have calmed somewhat Thursday and are not expected to be as powerful during the day.

The Eaton fire in Altadena started near a nature preserve just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. It's 0% contained but officials say growth has been significantly stopped.
