The police rushed to the scene on the M8 following reports of a man 'armed with a weapon' at junction 6 eastbound for Newhouse and Chapelhall just before 9am – as drivers urged to avoid the area

Specialist officers were called to the motorway between Junction 6 and Eurocentral at around 8.55am on Monday.
