CASTAIC, Calif. (AP) — Firefighters fought to maintain the upper hand on a huge and rapidly moving wildfire that swept through rugged mountains north of Los Angeles and resulted in more than 50,000 people being put under evacuation orders or warnings.

Firefighters spent early Wednesday morning working a two-alarm house fire in Pointe Coupee Parish. The fire broke out at a home on Mitchell Lane in Morganza. Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene’ Thibodaux says two people and a dog were inside the home and made it out safely.
