Rain has fallen around Southern California and is expected to aid firefighters mopping up multiple wildfires. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rain fell on parts of Southern California on Sunday and the scattered showers were expected to continue overnight, boosting the risk of toxic ash runoff in areas scorched by Los Angeles-area wildfires.

Beneficial rain moved into Southern California over the weekend for wildfire areas, however, the rain brought a new threat of flash flooding. Flood alerts are in place through Monday and more rain is on the way through Tuesday.

The highest intensity rain was expected between 4 p.m. on Sunday and 4 p.m. on Monday, according to the service. Los Angeles and Ventura Counties were expected to get up to an inch of total rainfall, and up to three inches was forecast in the mountains around Los Angeles.
