The Houston Rockets appear unwilling to trade for Sacramento Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox, a stance that could haunt them for years to come.
Through conversations with Kings officials in recent weeks, Houston Rockets officials were aware of the increasing likelihood of a potential De'Aaron Fox trade away from Sacramento, especially as the prospect of the 27-year-old guard signing a long-term extension with the Kings became less and less plausible.
These three teams are rising contenders in need of a star point guard and have the kinds of assets that the Kings would be interested in.
The clock is ticking on Sacramento. Would Houston or Orlando make a play for the point guard? Or will the Spurs form a dynamic duo?
While Fox is likely to sign an extension with the Spurs if he’s traded there, other inquiring teams are likely viewing him as a rental (he’s under contract through 2025/26), and the Kings will have to evaluate those offers as such.
The initial framing, back in July, was that De’Aaron Fox had merely taken a calculated financial gamble by holding off an extension. It was common knowledge that he would have access to even
