Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 in October 2025, leaving millions of users with tough decisions. Transitioning to Windows 11 could require a new laptop, as older devices may not meet the system requirements.

Microsoft has announced that the final day it will offer security support for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint on Windows 10 will be Oct. 14.

Microsoft urges users to upgrade to Windows 11 as key apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will stop receiving updates later this year.

Windows 10 isn't the only Microsoft product that is due to lose support this coming October. In a blog post published Wednesday, the software giant said Microsoft 365 apps (aka Office) will no longer be supported in Windows 10 after Oct. 14, 2025. To continue using Microsoft 365 or Office, the company urges users to upgrade to Windows 11.

Microsoft has now made it clear that support for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 will cease at the same time as support for the older operating system.

“Microsoft 365 Apps will no longer be supported after October 14, 2025, on Windows 10 devices,” the company confirmed. “To use Microsoft 365 Applications on your device, you will need to upgrade to Windows 11.”
