It’s cold, and it’s going to stay cold in Chicago with only minor fluctuations in temperatures likely over the next couple of weeks.

Early morning commuters will want to be alert for icy road conditions as a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain moves in on Monday morning.

Temperatures on Thursday will remain in the mid-20s under partly cloudy skies. By Thursday night, a system will approach the region, bringing the potential for light snow into Friday. Highs on Friday will inch closer to 30 degrees, with snowfall most likely near and east of Interstate 55.

While some areas won't see much snowfall or any at all, a band of lake-effect snow is expected to develop starting Sunday night, possibly dumping several inches of snow in far northeastern Illinois.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Another cold day is ahead in Chicago. This morning, northwest Indiana still has some lake-effect snow. The snow eventually tapers off and gives way to dry conditions. Highs for the week will be in the 20s, with lows in the teens and single digits.
